Moral Injuries of War may be experienced in a moderated or unmoderated manner. We will work with partners to determine which approach may be best suited for a given venue. Depending on the environmental, technical, and staffing capabilities, one or both approaches may be appropriate.

Moderated

The moderated experience is comprised of a 20-minute listening experience and a 15-minute dialogue in response to the audio.

A moderator will guide attendees into the installation space at the beginning of each listening session. Once the audio has played, the moderator will return to the space to facilitate a brief dialogue about the experience, allowing attendees to provide reactions to what they witnessed. The conversation may also be recorded for future integration into the experience.

A minimum of 1 moderator is required for this approach. Moderators may be provided by the Moral Injuries of War team or partners, pending capabilities.

Unmoderated

For the unmoderated experience, the audio will play in a continuous 90-minute loop. Individuals may enter and exit the installation at any time, allowing for a self-regulated, dynamic experience of the audio. Upon exiting, people may be asked to provide reactions in written or recorded form.

We recommend limiting the number of individuals permitted in the installation at once to avoid overcrowding of the space. While active moderation is not required, staffing may be necessary for this purpose.
